Recaro Pole Position ABE Install
Recaro Pole Position ABE Install
While Recaro needs no introduction, there is surprisingly little information out there regarding fitting Recaro seats into an NA Miata. When I deemed my heart set on the Recaro Pole Position, I was disheartened to see many a forum or social media posts saying this seat is too large for the Miata. I had seen some stray photos of this seat in the car, but often fitted with sliding seat rails, making the seat just about as high if not higher than the stock arrangement, no comments on fitment with door cards, whether the seat was centered and straight, etc. The cabin of a miata is notoriously cramped making a headache of many seat installs.
To add to the equation - I wanted specifically the ABE version of the pole position. Rather than the FIA certified version, this seat is developed for German ABE safety standards, the German equivalent to American DOT standards - so these have been designed with street use in mind. Recaro dubs them as the ultimate track road crossover seat. They can be found in some lovely European market performance cars, such as the BMW M4 GTS, Mercedes Benz AMG GT Black Series, GT R, & GT R Pro; albeit with some nice leather, carbon shells, etc. The biggest appeal is that they maintain similar dimensions to the FIA seat, but are slightly wider at the hips, accommodating up to a size 38 waist.
